PowerPoint

This PowerPoint lesson plan is designed for a fifth grade regular education mathematics classroom. The cognitive domain objectives are to further develop mathematics open ended problem solving skills. The affective domain objectives focus on team work skills.

This is a continuation of a problem solving unit being used throughout the school year. The students are to develop a PowerPoint show that illustrates and explains in detail a math skill. This skill may be content based, such as how to divide or word problem based, such as how to solve some type of word problem. The students will need to analyze the skill and thoroughly explain how to do the work. The use of PowerPoint is integrated within the activity.

General Objective-

The student will analyze the steps of a mathematical process.

Cognitive domain objectives-

The student will choose a mathematical process with 100 percent accuracy.

The student will identify the steps needed to complete a mathematical process with 90 percent accuracy.

The student will support their mathematical work with a detailed explanation of    their thinking processes with a score of 1 or better on the New Jersey State math      rubric.

The student will complete a PowerPoint show by using the software with 90  percent accuracy.

The student PowerPoint show will contain at least four multimedia components.

Affective domain objectives-

The student will follow rules for working in a small group setting 90 percent of  the time.

Lesson Plan

In groups of three students, the M.S.I. agents will choose a math content skill or a problem solving skill. They will develop a sample problem and then solve the sample problem. The students will need to analyze the steps needed and develop a storyboard to plan for their PowerPoint design. The students are to develop a PowerPoint program that depicts how to solve the problem and incorporates at least four multimedia units such as clip art, pictures, video.
