Fraction concepts will range from basic numerator/denominator work to multiplying mixed numbers later in the year. As we start our fraction work, watch for the common error of adding or subtracting the denominators. We try to avoid this by using manipulatives to make the concepts in fractions concrete.
As work becomes more complex, we will require them to show their work for each step. They need to do the steps to avoid careless errors.
Multiplication-
Proficient use of multiplication facts is so imperative. Please practice any fact problems that may cause careless errors in their work. Estimating is based on the fundamental understanding of multiplication which means -so many groups with so many in each.
On nights that I do not assign homework, I suggest a review of the work we have been doing over the course of the year. Pick a page from the textbook or workbook and see if there are problems you can solve.
